STD Test Complete

89,00 (includes shipping)

Sexually transmitted infections (STDs) are infections spread through sexual contact. While sometimes they present with symptoms, it is also possible to have no symptoms at all. Some STDs can cause serious complaints, especially if left untreated. While they are often easy to treat, early detection is key to effective treatment with minimal lasting health effects, as well as being essential to decreasing the spread of the infection to others.

The STD Test Complete is a certified laboratory test that tests for the most common bacterial and viral STDs. You can do it easily and anonymously from home. The test is delivered in discreet packaging.

Do you have symptoms, recently had unprotected sex, or have you been informed by a partner to get tested? If you would rather not see your doctor or you cannot go to the GGD, then do the self-sampling STD test via Homed-IQ. Your sample will be examined in a certified laboratory and treated confidentially.

Test for: Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomoniasis, Syphilis and HIV

Test mode:

  • Urine test & finger prick for men
  • Vaginal smear & finger prick for women

Incubation period: Every STD has an incubation period. If you test for an STD before the incubation period is over, you may test negative even if you do have it. See below for more information about the specific incubation period per STD and determine when you can reliably administer the test.

About the test result

What does the result of this test mean?

Anyone who orders a test from us will receive detailed laboratory results.

  • In case of a negative test result, it means that you do not have chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, syphilis, and HIV, and that no treatment is required.
  • A positive test result means that chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, syphilis, or HIV has been found and that treatment is needed. For your own health and to prevent the spread of STDs, it is important that you receive treatment if you are found to have an STD.

In the case of a positive test result, you can take the test results to your own doctor for treatment. You should also warn all your sexual partners to further prevent the spread of STDs. They can then have themselves tested and, if necessary, be treated. This can also be done anonymously via partnerwaarschuwing.nl (in the Netherlands only).

Background information

Introduction

Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) are diseases that are transmitted through sexual contact. You can be infected with or pass on a virus or bacteria to someone else during sex. This can be through the penis, vagina, anus, and sometimes also with your mouth or fingers. Many STDs cause little or no symptoms. However, an STD is not harmless, and it can cause uncomfortable symptoms at the location of infection. While most STDs are treatable, if some infections are not treated in time they can cause longer-term damage to the body. For example, some untreated STDs in women can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease. In the long run, this increases the risk of infertility and ectopic pregnancy. It is therefore important that you get tested if you have been at risk to treat the infection and to prevent it from spreading to others.

Via Homed-IQ you can get tested for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomoniasis, Syphilis and HIV.

Chlamydia

Chlamydia is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis. The bacteria can cause infection of the urethra, cervix, rectum or throat. The infection can spread to the epididymis in men and to the uterus or fallopian tubes in women. Left untreated, this increases the risk of infertility and ectopic pregnancy. If a woman has chlamydia during pregnancy, she can also infect her baby during delivery without proper management. This can lead to an eye and respiratory tract infection in the baby. Chlamydia is a very common STD and is usually treatable with antibiotics.

Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the bacteria Neisseria gonorrhoeae. This STD is very contagious. In most cases, infected individuals don’t have any signs or symptoms. Gonorrhea, if not treated, can also cause further health issues, just like chlamydia. Untreated gonorrhea can cause pelvic inflammation, infertility, or ectopic pregnancy in women, as well as inflammation of the epididymis or prostate in men. Rarely, gonorrhea can enter the bloodstream and cause infections in other parts of the body. This can lead to inflammation of the joints, septicemia, or meningitis. Gonorrhea is more common in men who have sex with men. Pregnant women with untreated gonorrhea may develop problems during pregnancy, such as inflammation inside the womb or premature birth of the baby. They can also infect their baby during delivery without proper management. This can lead to eye inflammation and blindness in the baby. Gonorrhea is treatable with antibiotics.

Trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted disease that is rare in the Netherlands, and can sometimes take years before women experience symptoms. Men usually have no symptoms at all. Trichomoniasis is caused by the parasite Trichomonas vaginalis and is a treatable condition. The parasite can cause infection of the vagina, cervix, and urethra. For pregnant women, it can cause you to give birth early or have a child with low birth weight. Trichomoniasis is treatable with antibiotics.

 Syphilis

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease most common in men who have sex with men (or if you are from a country in which syphilis is endemic). It is caused by the bacteria Treponema Pallidum. Syphilis often does not cause any complaints, although in the initial stage of infection it may cause a lesion (chancre) at the location where the syphilis entered your body. The bacteria infects the mucous membranes of the penis, vagina, anus, or mouth and can cause inflammation as well as a body rash. If left untreated for long periods of time, syphilis can cause serious inflammation and eventually organ damage. Syphilis can be detected with blood tests. It can be treated – provided you detect it in a timely manner. You can get syphilis through penetration but also through oral sex, for example from a mouth ulcer infected with the bacteria.

HIV

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that affects the body’s immune system. The virus is in blood, semen, vaginal fluid, and breast milk, and can be contracted if these fluids enter your bloodstream. HIV mainly occurs in men who have sex with men or if you come from a STD-endemic country. Initially you may not notice many symptoms of HIV, and may be infected for years before you experience any severe symptoms. However, over time your body’s immune system will decline, making you susceptible to many types of illnesses. This can lead to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), a chronic and life threatening condition if left untreated.  HIV can be detected with a blood test. While HIV cannot be cured yet, AIDS can be prevented with proper detection and treatment. Timely and intensive treatment with various medicines can make the blood “virus-free”, so that someone is no longer contagious and has a normal life expectancy.

Results

What does the result of this test mean?

Anyone who orders a test from us will receive detailed laboratory results.

  • In case of a negative test result, it means that you do not have chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, syphilis, and HIV, and that no treatment is required.
  • A positive test result means that chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, syphilis, or HIV has been found and that treatment is needed. For your own health and to prevent the spread of STDs, it is important that you receive treatment if you are found to have an STD.

You can take the test results to your own doctor for treatment. If you prefer not to, our in-house physician can prescribe medication to you (note, only for chlamydia). Your privacy is just as important to us as it is to you. We need your name, date of birth and citizen service (personal identification) number to be able to issue your medication. This service is currently only available in the Netherlands. We always treat your data confidentially.

In case of a positive test result, you must warn all your sexual partners to prevent the spread of STDs. They can then have themselves tested and, if necessary, be treated. Within the Netherlands this can be done anonymously via partnerwaarschuwing.nl.

Overall experience was excellent. But the processing time was a bit long, maybe it was because I only ordered late Friday evening. The rest of the process went well.

The test was delivered within a day and I thought it was all easy to do, activating the test could perhaps be a little easier. At least I didn't have to go to the doctor or take a day off from work to get my blood checked or come back to a doctor's office for the results! It's quick and easy.

Shipping is very fast and the purchase process is well described in the supplied manual. It took me a maximum of five minutes to do. I knew it would be difficult for me to get to the doctor, especially because of COVID-19, so this was a lifesaver. It took 4 days to receive my results.

Anyone who is sexually active is at risk for sexually transmitted infections. If you are sexually active, it is important to use protection and get screened regularly. This is especially important if you have more than one sexual partner.

Safe sex reduces the risk of an STD, such as using a condom or dental dam during sexual intercourse or oral sex and cleaning sex toys. Even when using a condom, not all STDs can be completely prevented. Genital warts, syphilis, and genital herpes can also enter your body through your skin. Pubic lice or scabies can also be transmitted through skin or pubic hair.

HIV and Hepatitis B and C are transmissible through blood. This means that in order to become infected, body fluids such as blood, vaginal fluids or semen must enter the bloodstream. This can happen in various ways, such as through open sores, needle stick injuries, or tears in the skin from sexual contact. One cannot catch hepatitis or HIV through activities like hugging, sharing eating utensils, or sneezing/coughing.

For more information about safe sex, go to this website.

You should be tested if:

  • You are experiencing symptoms that may be consistent with an STD (However, many STDs do not cause any symptoms)
  • You have been notified by public health services or a sexual partner that someone you have had sexual contact with has an STD
  • You are with a new sexual partner and want to have unprotected intercourse
  • You have many/changing sexual partners
  • You are a man who has sexual contact with men
  • You are a sex worker

Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, and Trichomoniasis are some of the most common STDs worldwide. That is why it is very important that STDs are regularly tested for, so that further spread is limited.

You will receive extensive instructions with your test.

Every STD has an incubation period. This is the time between the actual infection and the moment that the STD is detectable by a test. From that moment on, the bacteria can be detected by a test.
